Why is my AC blowing warm air?

There are a few common culprits for this, especially during our hot Alabama summers. The simplest fix is checking your thermostat settings and ensuring your air filter isn't completely clogged. However, if your system is blowing warm air, it usually points to a refrigerant leak or a failing compressor. Because refrigerant requires a certified technician to handle, it's best to turn the system off to prevent further damage and [contact us] for a diagnostic check. You can find out more details on our Air Conditioning Repair page.

How often should I change my air filter in South Alabama?

Because our cooling season in Mobile and Baldwin County is so long and humid, your AC runs much more frequently than in other parts of the country. As a general rule, you should check your filter every 30 days. Standard 1-inch filters typically need replacing every 1 to 3 months. In fact, we recommend you use much more robust solutions than these 1-inch filters. If you have pets, suffer from allergies, or live near a dirt road, you'll want to swap them out closer to the 30-day mark. Regular filter changes are the easiest way to prevent breakdowns and keep your energy bills low!

Why is my AC unit freezing up?

It sounds crazy for an air conditioner to freeze over in the middle of a Gulf Coast summer, but it happens quite often! An AC freezes when there is restricted airflow (usually a severely clogged air filter or a dirty evaporator coil) or when the system is low on refrigerant. If you notice ice on your refrigerant lines or your unit, turn the AC off immediately and turn the fan setting to "ON" to help it thaw. Then, give our emergency technicians a call or schedule a repair call to safely fix the root problem.

What is a heat pump, and do I need one in Alabama?

A heat pump is an HVAC system that provides both cooling and heating. Instead of burning fuel to create heat in the winter, it simply moves heat from the outside air into your home. Because our winters in South Alabama are relatively mild, heat pumps are incredibly energy-efficient and highly recommended for our area. As Baldwin County’s oldest factory-authorized Carrier dealer, we can help you decide if a Carrier heat pump is the right fit for your home.

Do you offer financing for new AC systems?

Yes, we do! We understand that replacing a heating and cooling system is a major investment in your home's comfort and value. To make the process as smooth as possible, we offer flexible financing options (with approved credit) for our customers. You can learn more about our options on our HVAC financing page or by calling our office at (251) 626-9231.

How much does air conditioning repair cost?

This is a broad question, and its cost, of course, varies according to what’s wrong with the air conditioning unit, the number of air conditioning units (usually dependent on the size of the house), and whether this repair is an emergency repair. Something as simple as a blown capacitor can be very inexpensive, especially if we have one on the truck already. However, replacing that same capacitor at 9pm on a Saturday can be very expensive. Plus, while you may be addressing the immediate problem, there may be an underlying problem that will require multiple visits unless it is properly addressed.

That’s why we recommend signing up for a bi-annual maintenance program (we call ours RESA - the Residential Energy Savings Agreement). You’ll get access to a 24/7 emergency repair technician. Discounts on parts and labor, and much more. Check our AC Maintenance page to learn more.

What is the average lifespan of an air conditioner?

Most air conditioning systems last between 10 to 20 years, depending on whether it is appropriately sized for your space, whether it’s been properly maintained over the course of its lifetime, and how much it’s been used.

That said, HVAC systems may last much longer than that. However, without proper AC maintenance, you will see your heating and cooling system’s energy efficiency and cooling power drop precipitously.
